We had a fantastic week at SupplySide West in Las Vegas this past October connecting with innovators in the nutraceutical industry and sharing our latest offerings. Missed the event? Here are the highlights of three of the solutions we showcased.
CapsCanada’s Tamping Simulator Tool is a huge time and money saver
If you use an automatic tamping-style capsule filling machine, you know how tricky it can be to get all the settings just right so as to form a good slug. While an experienced operator knows what to look for, an inexperienced operator can waste a lot of time trying to hit the mark. Or, worse, they can use a thick disc and light compression to create a slug that’s the right target weight – only to end up with weight variations and joining defects in production.
CapsCanada’s Tamping Simulator, a benchtop device that is only available to CapsCanada customers, lets you identify and test all the settings for the dosing area of your filling machine before you go to production. This unique tool has the same components (i.e., Tamping Pin, Compression Spring and Cap, and 0-25mm Compression Scale) as your filling machine, and uses your actual fill material. Use the Tamping Simulator tool to determine which dose to use, where to set the powder level in the bowl, the optimal settings for each tamping station and the spring compression settings for each station.
The Tamping Simulator tool is also quite useful long before production, while you are still early in the R&D process. Because it “speaks the same language” as your filling machine, you can use it to identify and address formulation challenges. Will a powder perform as needed when under compression?
