The Story Behind Azul de Jagua (Jagua Blue) 

Azul de Jagua is derived from the Genipa americana fruit, commonly known as Jagua, which grows abundantly in Colombia’s biodiverse rainforests, particularly in regions like Antioquia, Cauca, Chocó and the Amazon basin. This fruit has been used for centuries by Indigenous communities for body painting, medicinal applications, and natural dyes.

However, for the first time, this Colombian resource is reaching international markets and is being exported as an FDA-certified natural colorant. Jagua Blue has now been officially recognized in the Codex Alimentarius, the international food safety and regulatory standard. This certification allows it to be used across food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, pet and cosmetic industries worldwide.

For years, natural blue pigments have been rare in the food and supplement industry. Most available options were either synthetic or derived from spirulina.
